​Gay Stereotypes & How They Affect Us

Many men in their 40's, 50's or 60's grew up with ugly stereotypes of what it meant to be gay or bisexual.  Even today with our more open society these old beliefs can lie in wait just below the surface and will impact how we see another man, a situation or what it means to be gay.

Here are some of the topics we will consider:

• How do stereotypes of gay and bisexual men affect our feeling of self?
• Is our perception of the gay or bi community blinded by outdated stereotypes?  Do these perceptions impact our lives today?
• How do gay stereotypes affect our feelings about gay people?
• Are gay stereotypes a form of internalized homophobia?
• Do we still harbor shame about being gay.
• How do we react when we see two men holding hands on the street, kissing, or being intimate? 
• Does coming out affect these long held beliefs?
• Do you have negative stereotypes of aspects of the gay community that keeps you from having a more full and interesting life?
• Do old stereotypes keep you from finding intimacy and love with another man?
